A GREAT BIG SMILE FROM VENUS LP
DEEP DISTANCE LP
DEEP DISTANCE EP
The solo project of musician/producer Matthew Simms.
Following 2015’s purely Farfisa based 10” single which sold out in a week; the debut full length LP draws upon hours of endless home recordings of improvised modular synth and farfisa organ, processed and distressed through old analog delays and reverbs and formed of two side long sound collages.
Repetitive, Cosmic and minimal!
Drones and arrangements of the likes of Terry Riley, JD Emmanuel and “Dreamweapon” era Spacemen 3.
Matthew has also been a member of Wire since 2010 (adding his distinctive guitar and synth parts to 2013’s acclaimed “Change Becomes Us” LP, 2015’s Self titled ‘Wire’, 2016’s “Nocturnal Koreans“ & 2017’s “Silver / Lead”)
For the past 11 years leading It Hugs Back, he has released 4 varied albums of lo-fi pop with a fifth on the way.
He has also added guitar to the last Bill Fay album and recently return to studio with him for the next , as well as a soundtrack to the film “Suzanne” by Electrelane’s Verity Susman.
2017 also saw him make a record for Editions Mego with Graham Lewis (WIRE), Thighpaulsandra and Valentinna Magalletti (Tomaga), produce and mix the next Chastity Belt album for release on Hardly Art/Sub Pop and even found himself on stage in London collaborating with Michael Rother of Neu! And Harmonia.
